Consumer Sentinel Network releases Report of Consumer Complaints for 2015…

Collection agencies rank #1.  Credit Bureaus rank in top 10.  And actually considering that reliable data has proven to show that majority of ID Theft claims(#2) are actually Credit Bureau Mistakes, its safe to say Credit Bureau complaints should be listed way higher.

Where is Credit Repair?  Doesnt make the list.  Previously Credit Repair would injutly be bundled together w Payday Loans and other high complaint industries.  This year, as a stand alone, Credit Repair accounts for less than 0.06% of all registered complaints.  See Below

Credit Tip Of The Week…Debt Utilization…The Truth…!!

We are constantly asked what is the proper percentage of a balance to keep on credit cards.  The most common things that consumers have typically heard is 30%, or sometimes 50%.  Which is correct?  Is either correct?

Here is the TRUTH:

Keep all credit cards under 10% of the available credit limit, to maximize FICO score. (For even more FICO improvement, try keeping under 10% balance on one credit card ONLY…keep all other credit cards at ZERO.)

Credit Tip of The Week…Credit Bureau Disputes, Good or Bad?

Whats the truth w the credit bureau dispute process.  If you have negative or unrecognized accounts listed on your credit report, should you just send in disputes to the credit bureaus?  Be careful, that could lead to more problems.

While the credit bureaus themselves, advertise how easy it is to submit disputes to them, and even make it easy as clicking a button online, consumers must beware.  The bureaus encourage people to do this because it is a source of revenue for them.  They bill the creditor of the account that is being disputed, each time this occurs.

Also, the basic credit bureau dispute process doesnt typically lead to getting tough information corrected, at least not more than temporarily.  The other problem is that the accounts you are disputing will end up reporting as “in dispute” which is a MAJOR problem if you are applying for something like a mortgage.  You might get declcined for a mortgage even if your scores are good, if you have items listed as “in dispute”.

BEWARE THE CREDIT BUREAU DISPUTE PROCESS…!!

Credit Tip of The Week…Student Loans.

Student Loans…they are such a big part of our existence these days. They can help in so many ways, but also can hurt in equally as many ways. Not only can they end up taking forever to pay off, as they are growing with interest the entire time you are in school, they can harm the credit report also. The best thing you can do is first make sure you stay on top of getting the appropriate deferment or forbearance documentation to whoever is servicing your loans. I have seen countless times that Student Loans are being marked as being paid late, when in fact they should have been in deferment, but the proper docs were not sent in. Beyond that, the single most important thing one can do, is make sure all loans are consolidated at the earliest opportunity. Most student loans are issued on a “semester by semester” basis. So someone that only went to undergrad can have 8-12 different loans, by the time they are done. The confusion is that the loan servicer will typically allow you to send one payment and then they will make sure all loans get paid. But, #1 what it they make a mistake, or #2 what if you dont send a payment?? Rather than having one derogatory mark on your credit report, you will have….10-12 derogatory marks. See how much that can hurt?. So first opportunity, make sure your student loans are consolidated. Its typically pretty easy to do, especially if all loans are Government Loans. If you made the unfortunate decision of taking our privatized Student Loans, you may have more difficulty, especially if you try to consolidate them with your Government Student Loans. So another tip, stick to the Government Student Loans whenever possible.
